Thank You, West Birchwood Jericho Community!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Civic Association of West Birchwood Jericho this year. Your support is invaluable and helps us continue to make our community a wonderful place to live.
Out of our 825 homes, 151 have generously contributed so far for the 2024. Our contributions go toward beautification such as landscaping and upkeep of our properties such as fencing, damage during the winter, gates near the parks, seasonal plantings, electrical work on our signs, and more.
If you haven’t contributed yet, please consider making the $75 annual fee toward the beautification and upkeep of West Birchwood.
Every family’s contribution helps us achieve our annual goals and enhance our neighborhood to keep West Birchwood prestigious, beautiful, and a wonderful place to live.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication. As always, please reach out to join our committees if you have any ideas.
When in doubt, call 911!!!
(any suspicious individuals or vehicles)
• Many of the gangs involved are from South America, specifically Colombia, Chile, and Venezuela. These people often surveil their targets for extended periods, and are showing up in luxury vehicles like Mercedes, Lexus, BMW.
How to Protect Your Home:
• Ensure your home is well-lit when you're out (and at all times), as dark houses are more vulnerable to break-ins.
Leaving a TV on in the living room can also deter criminals.
• Consider installing alarms and security cameras, including motion and glass break sensors, to enhance home security.
• Adjust your doorbell camera settings to capture longer videos (60 seconds or more), as intruders may lurk before attempting a break-in.
• Avoid relying solely on Wi-Fi for alarm systems, as criminals can disable them using Wi-Fi signal jammers. Consider using a hard wired alarm system.
Extend alarm coverage to multiple floors, especially if the master bedroom is on the second floor.
When receiving Amazon packages while away, ask neighbors to assist in securing them rather than leaving them unattended.
• Inform the police before going on vacation to increase patrols in your absence
• Consider storing valuables in less obvious locations such as the kitchen, basement, or boiler room rather than the master bedroom.
What to Look Out For:
• Many suspect vehicles are driven by women . Criminal groups often use two cars for quick getaways during break-ins.
• Pay attention to the license plates of suspicious vehicles, especially if they're from out of state. If the plate is unreadable, report it to the police.
• Verify the presence of a company vehicle if someone in a uniform is seen walking down your street.
• Report any suspicious drones, particularly those flying at higher altitudes, to the police . If you suspect you're being followed while driving home, perform multiple turns to confirm, then call 911.
Other Information to Know:
• Make sure to obtain an alarm permit (register with the police) to ensure proper response to alerts from the alarm company.
• Police will now strictly enforce stop sign violations as they provide reasonable suspicion for potential involvement in criminal activity.
The number for the Alarm Permit section is (516) 573-7862 or (516)573-7298 and you can leave a message someone will get back to you.

Subject: Request for State Funding for License Plate Reading System in Jericho West Birchwood Community
Dear Assemblyman Lavine,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you on behalf of the residents of the Jericho West Birchwood community in Jericho, NY, to request state funding for the purchase, installation, and annual subscription of an approved License Plate Reading (LPR) system. Our community has been grappling with persistent issues related to theft, break-ins, and criminal activities, and we believe that the implementation of an LPR system will greatly enhance our neighborhood's safety and security.
Over the past few years, our community has experienced an alarming increase in car thefts, break-ins, and even attempted home invasions. Incidents such as the theft of catalytic converters and three recent attempted home break-ins, all captured on surveillance cameras, have left our residents deeply concerned for the safety of their families and properties. Our proximity to main roads and parkways facilitates quick access for criminals to leave the scene, making our community particularly vulnerable to these offenses.
To address these pressing issues, we propose the installation of up to nine cameras strategically placed throughout the Jericho West Birchwood community. The implementation of an LPR system will not only act as a deterrent but will also significantly improve the chances of identifying and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities. We believe that such a system will complement the efforts of the 2nd Precinct Police and enhance overall public safety in our neighborhood.
I kindly request that you work in collaboration with the Civic Association of West Birchwood and the 2nd Precinct Police to secure state funding for this essential project. We are aware that neighboring communities have received funding for LPR systems, and we believe that our community deserves the same level of support. The implementation of this system will not only contribute to the safety of our residents but also serve as a valuable resource for law enforcement.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to the possibility of working together to make our community a safer place for everyone. If you require any additional information or would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me at 516-XXX_XXXX or Michael@Westbirchwood.org
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Michael Adrian (founding member of the Civic Association of West birchwood, Jericho)
